Our Story

In 2005, Lois Bettini, Patricia McRae and Emma Walton created the Friends of the Campbell Creek Science Center to connect the community with outdoor science education at the Campbell Tract.
In 2025, the Friends of Campbell Creek Science Center has become Friends of Campbell Tract. We are still working to support the Campbell Creek Science Center AND we are expanding to support the work and users across all of Campbell Tract!
The Campbell Creek Science Center provides programming for over 6,000 students and 3,000 community member each year. The Campbell Tract is over 730 acres and holds 24 miles of trails. The Friends of Campbell Tract work to make both the programming and area more accessible to users of all ages and abilities by raising funds, conservation efforts, volunteering, and providing educational materials and scholarships. Your support makes this work happen!
Honoring Our Founder
Your tax-deductible donation is in honor of Joette Storm, a remarkable friend and steward of public lands. Joette had a notable impact on public land conservation through her work at the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service. She was also a founding board member of the Campbell Creek Science Center 501(c)(3), sharing her knowledge of and passion for conservation, education and philanthropic support of the great outdoors.
Serving on the Friends board from 2005-2020, Joette's enthusiam, dedication, and leadership were critical. She raised nearly $185,0000 for program support, leveraged more than $65,000 in in-kind contributions and created scholarships for economically-disadvantaged youth.
In 1974, while working for the BLM, she co-founded Outdoor Week, a program to teach 6th graders in the Anchorage School District about Alaska's outdoor habitats. This program helped inform the Science Center curriculum. Joette, her husdan Gene, daughter Nina and their various dogs, enjoyed hiking Campbell Tract's trails for 42 years. Joette's legacy will be felt and cherished for decades to come. The Storm Family thanks you for your contribution.
